FLY on the wall: During our trip to NY, we sneak peeked FLY, AMAZING GRACE and cheered for CHAPLIN!

Last week, we were in The Big Apple catching some of the latest Broadway shows and attending meetings with The Broadway League and booking agents. It’s never too early to start planning for upcoming Broadway at the Bass seasons!

Some highlights from the week:

-We caught the new Broadway musical CHAPLIN Tuesday night. This compelling and moving musical tells the story of the rise and fall of legendary comedic film actor Charlie Chaplin. Amazing acting combined with dazzling dancing provided us with a great night of entertainment. There are talks of this show going out on the road so maybe we’ll be able to present it here in Fort Worth in the future.

-Wednesday consisted of catching the revival of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? This three-hour epic play is comprised of brilliant acting and clever staging. It definitely takes you along on a roller coaster of emotions and leaves you feeling like you were part of the story.

-It was networking time on Wednesday evening as we attended The Broadway League’s Annual Holiday Party. It’s always good to catch up with your colleagues from around the country and in NYC.

christmasstory-Thursday night we saw the hit holiday musical A CHRISTMAS STORY. If you love the movie, you’re going to love this musical! They did a great job adapting the movie to the stage. It was a magical night of reliving holiday memories. We look forward to hopefully presenting this on the Bass Hall stage in the future.

-We’ve also had the opportunity this week to experience two very special readings of upcoming planned Broadway productions. On Wednesday we attended the reading of AMAZING GRACE, a new musical that chronicles the redemptive story of John Newton, the man behind the lyrics of the famed hymn. It was great to see this new musical in its raw form – no costumes, no sets, just actors, musicians and a great script and music. After seeing this reading, we look forward to seeing this musical come to life on the stage soon!

– On Friday, we attended a reading and presentation of FLY, the new musical directed by Jeffrey Sellers that is making its stage debut with FLY Dallas Theater Center this coming summer. This new musical is an adaptation of the famed story of PETER PAN, but told more from Wendy’s viewpoint. Captain Hook, Peter Pan, The Lost Boys and Tinkerbell are all presented in a new, fresh light, with a very contemporary and addictive music score. After seeing this presentation, we’ll be buying our tickets tickets to see the final version of FLY this summer with Dallas Theater Center! And don’t forget Cathy Rigby is PETER PAN is coming to Bass Hall this March!

grace-We also saw the play Grace, starring Paul Rudd, as well as Circus Oz, a potential show for an upcoming season of our Family Series.

It was a very busy, but productive week. We look forward to presenting some of these new theatrical productions to you in upcoming seasons at Bass Hall.

And don’t forget you can give the gift of Broadway for the Holiday! We have five Broadway tours rolling into Bass Hall over the next six months, including WEST SIDE STORY, MEMPHIS, MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, Cathy Rigby is PETER PAN and SISTER ACT. Five and four-show season ticket packages are available and make great holiday gifts!

We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming show!
