Calling all bakers! The Fort Worth location of Central Market and Bass Performance Hall are hosting a pie-baking contest in celebration of the upcoming musical Waitress, playing at Bass Hall June 19-24. Everyone is welcome to enter! Here’s how:

1. Complete the online registration form. Registration is $10 per contestant but every participant will be given a $10 Central Market gift card for entering.

2. Bring your best and most innovative, made-from-scratch, 9-inch pie with identifying card (the name of the entry on one side and your name on the other side) and the recipe to Central Market-Fort Worth’s Cooking School from 5 to 6 p.m. on Monday, June 11. Entries will not be accepted after 6:15 p.m.! The ingredients should be purchased from Central Market.

3. Central Market has assembled a panel of pie-loving judges, including Fort Worth’s own Mayor Betsy Price, to narrow the field down to first, second and third places using the following criteria: taste, appearance and creativity.

Depending on the number of entries, judging will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The winning recipe will be included as an insert into the cookbook, The Waitress Pie Book, Sugar, Butter, Flour, for sale at Bass Hall during the run of the show.

The winning recipe will also be published on the Central Market website during the month of July. First, second and third prize winner will receive a copy of the cookbook, The Waitress Pie Book, Sugar, Butter, Flour, a pair of tickets to see Waitress at Bass Hall on opening night, Tuesday, June 19, Waitress measuring spoons and a gift card from Central Market (gift card amounts will be $150 for first place, $100 for second and $50 for third).

Central Market is at 4651 W. Freeway, in Fort Worth.

Inspired by Adrienne Shelly’s beloved film, Waitress is an irresistible new show featuring original music and lyrics by six-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles. Waitress tells the story of Jenna, a waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town’s new doctor may offer her a chance at a fresh start, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes for happiness. But Jenna must summon the strength and courage to rebuild her own life.
