The 2013 Spring Road Conference, hosted by The Broadway League, officially kicked off yesterday with opening remarks by legendary actor Tom Hanks, who recently received a Tony Awards nomination for his current role on Broadway in LUCKY GUY.

The conference opening sessions also included a “Creative Conversation” with the composer, book author and the women who interchange roles in the new Broadway hit MATILDA THE MUSICAL. Can’t wait to see this show later this week!

After lunch, it was time to take in the Tony-nominated play VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE starring Sigourney Weaver and David Hyde Pierce. It’s a very funny, well-written play that examines the dynamics of family relationships and the need to stop and enjoy the time that’s been given to us.

While the conference officially kicked off Wednesday, some of us have been in New York since Sunday. We participated in the League’s Education and Community Engagement Forum on Monday, followed by marketing meetings with press agents representing the shows heading out on tour for the 14-15 season.

We still have a slew of new shows to see this week, including THE ASSEMBLED PARTIES, KINKY BOOTS, MATILDA THE MUSICAL, PIPPIN, CINDERELLA and MOTOWN THE MUSICAL.

Be sure to follow us all week to stay up-to-date on the latest events from NYC!
