Open House at Bass Hall happening THIS Saturday!

In conjunction with Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival 2013, Bass Performance Hall will open its doors on Saturday, April 20, for a free event designed to spotlight the Hall’s four resident arts organizations.

Open House at Bass Performance Hall will feature interactive exhibits, displays and performances by Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Opera, The Cliburn and Texas Ballet Theater.

The event will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013, from 1:00 – 4:00pm, during Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival 2013. The Bass Performance Hall Open House is free and open to the public.

Highlights will include:

• The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra’s brass ensemble will perform. Visitors can also get up close and personal looks at the symphony’s wide array of instruments at the symphony’s family-friendly “instrument petting zoo.” Tickets to upcoming FWSO performances will be available in the lobby.

• Highlighting the over-the-top spectacle component of opera, the Fort Worth Opera will display costumes from past performances, including the stunning designs of the 2011 Festival production, Julius Caesar. Fort Worth Opera will also have a fun interactive station where visitors of all ages can snap keepsake photos with opera characters like Hansel and Gretel. In addition, visitors will be wowed by the incredible Parisian-inspired lobby decorations that will help kick off the 2013 Fort Worth Opera Festival season opener, La Bohème, Saturday night at 7:30. Tickets to the Fort Worth Opera Festival will be on sale at the box office.

• From their current TBT Springfest production of Lambarena, Voluntaries and More, Texas Ballet Theater will present the performance of Ben Stevenson’s Ave’ Maria. With music by Slava Kagan-Paley and costume design by Masako Parshall, the pas de deux will be performed by Heather Kotelenets and Alexander Kotelenets. In the lobby, visitors will be mesmerized by a costume display of elaborate tutus from The Dying Swan, Esmeralda and the lavish new production of The Nutcracker. Children will have the opportunity to interact with costumed ballerinas from the official school of Texas Ballet Theater and will have the opportunity to enjoy mini ballet classes in between performances. Tickets to the TBT Festival will be on sale at the Texas Ballet Theater information table.

The Cliburn will present four pianists – two per piano – performing Stars and Stripes Forever and Khachaturian’s Sabre Dance. Also, in the Bass Hall lobby, the new 15-foot plus Cliburn Floor Piano – created by Inside Image Design – will be unveiled for patrons to play. Tickets to the Fourteenth Cliburn Competition and 2013-14 Cliburn Concerts will be on sale at the box office.

On Friday, April 19, free tours of the Hall will be conducted every 30 minutes between 6-8pm.

Bass Performance Hall is at 525 Commerce Street. Ticket office hours: Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
