Spring Road Conference NYC: Day 1

Today begins the annual Spring Road Conference hosted by The Broadway League. We’ve participated today in marketing meetings for touring shows for JERSEY BOYS, WAR HORSE, SISTER ACT and MEMPHIS. As you know, we have both SISTER ACT and MEMPHIS on our 2012-2013 Broadway at the Bass season.

This week is great for networking with your peers around the country who also present touring Broadway shows. This is also the time of year where new shows have opened on Broadway and you get a glimpse at what the potential touring road shows will be for upcoming seasons. You have to plan two-three years out when booking Broadway tours.

We arrived in New York City last Friday to participate in a press event with The Broadway League announcing the new VIVA BROADWAY! initiative.

We’re excited to announce that Performing Arts Fort Worth is working with the League and will serve as a test pilot market for this new exciting initiative! More details will be announced soon. Also, a shout-out to our local creative agency, Immotion Studios, which designed the VIVA BROADWAY! logo.

We have already seen two new shows: LEAP OF FAITH and CLYBOURNE PARK. Unfortunately, LEAP OF FAITH played its final performance yesterday and doesn’t appear to be a candidate for a road show.

CLYBOURNE PARK at The Walter Kerr Theatre

CLYBOURNE PARK is an amazing play that deals with issues of race and class in our society, from the 1950s through now. A very powerful play that was a 2011 Pulitzer Prize winner.

It’s about time to get ready to head to a reception hosted by the current Broadway hit, The Gershwins’ PORGY AND BESS, and then we’re off to see the new Disney musical NEWSIES later tonight.

The conference officially opens tomorrow morning and we’ll have a recap of NEWSIES and all the latest news from the conference on tomorrow’s blog posting.

We’ll also be posting pics throughout the week so be sure to check out this blog and our Facebook page for all the latest news from the conference!

Until tomorrow…
